Young children have mental health struggles, too

Less than 1 percent of young children with emotional behavioral problems are identified.

Between 80 percent and 97 percent of 3- to 5-year-olds identified as having behavioral health needs do not receive services.

Up to 14.2 percent of children up to age 5 experience social-emotional problems that negatively impact their functioning, development and school readiness.

That’s according to a National Center for Children in Poverty’s August 2009 publication.
