MNU professor is National Play Therapy chair-elect
Mary Fry, associate professor of counseling at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU), was elected chair-elect of the Association for Play Therapy on October 16 during its annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
Fry, a licensed clinical professional counselor and registered play therapist-supervisor (RPT-S), teaches in the play therapy certificate program at MNU. She will prepare to chair the association’s Board of Directors next year. Fry was initially elected to the board in 2007.
Play therapy is a form of mental health counseling by which licensed mental health professionals incorporate the use of play to better communicate with and help clients achieve optimal mental health. It is particularly effective with children because, just as adults use words to communicate ideas and feelings, children use play.
