Exhibit focuses on autistic children and their moms
SPECIAL MOTHERS AND SONS: “Autism: A Portrait of Mothers with Sons,’’ an intensely personal exhibit by photographer Kim Mimnaugh, is in the Winfisky Gallery at Salem State University through Nov. 4.
“My son has autism,’’ said Mimnaugh, a faculty member at the university for nearly 20 years. “This has made me see and question the world in a new way. I’m photographing my son out of love and also for the quirky exchanges we have while the camera is out.’’
She said that after many years of thinking how to use her photography skills to express love for her son, she “gathered the courage to photograph other mothers and their sons with autism.’’
