Students with disabilities create new university publication
Queen’s students with disabilities will soon have a forum to call their own. Able is the name of a new publication set to launch this year.
“I’d always been reticent about talking about my disability,” says Ben Jennings (Arts ’13), who came up with the idea for the new magazine. “I don’t like to take help, and I wanted to pretend it wasn’t there a lot of the time. But I’ve become a lot more comfortable with thinking of myself as a person with a disability and discussing it.”
Mr. Jennings is a linguistics student entering his second year. He was working on a small, independent publication on his own when friends suggested he contact the Alma Mater Society (AMS) about creating a larger publication.
