Day on the Beach unites hundreds with special needs
he ocean has many therapeutic properties, but none quite as powerful as freeing someone from a wheelchair — even if only for a day.
That was the motivation for Shared Adventures’ Day on the Beach on Saturday. More than 200 participants with disabilities were able to kayak, scuba dive, float in an outrigger canoe, cruise Cowell Beach in a specially adapted wheelchair, eat free food and listen to live music.
The day not only marked the 18th year of the event but the 32nd anniversary of when Shared Adventures founder Foster Anderson was left paralyzed in a motorcycle accident.
