Games? What games?
When my kids were little we were working on a lot of therapy goals. When I say “a lot” I mean they had probably 20-30 goals between the two of them from all the disciplines at any given time. I got pretty good at figuring out what games and toys would help us in the process and I figured, if I’m going to play anyway with the kids, it might as well be therapeutic, right?
We played (actually we still do!) a lot of Chutes-n-Ladders. No reasoning is involved, just luck, so it was nice between sibs, was good for learning to take turns, was great for counting and fine motor because of moving your piece up the board. The regular cards and uno cards were great for counting as well, matching colors, and we used to lay them out end to end on the floor to see how long they stretched (great for bending over as well as fine motor laying them touching). We didn’t play typical dominos for years but we played with them all the time when the kids were little. We stacked, matched, set up, pushed down, in the box, out of the box, you get the idea. And now, we can play checkers. It’s fun when they get how a strategic game works!
Why are we pushing for people to play? Well, for the last week we’ve been working on a contest through the end of the month…Share the Site, Keep the Cash!
How do you register to win? Become a member of our site. That’s it! We’ll pick a random member this weekend!
And well, the card holder? Those are for kids like mine…who have a little trouble holding a hand of cards.
* Note: If your Twitter or Facebook friends join because of you, remember to let us know so we can credit you for our Share the Site, Keep the Cash contest!
Why the games?
This week we’re going to be talking about working together with others in our community. Sites like 5 Minutes for Special Needs, The Coffee Klatch and Special Mom Talk are valuable to our broader community, just like we are and we want to grow the support network from site to site. We’ve been welcoming other communities with a focus on special needs to start a group to promote themselves.
After all, the more we can connect, the more we can support, the more enriched we all are, right? So, play with me! Join in the discussions! And of course, invite your friends for the chance to win a $100 Gift Card!
Note: To support the site we make money on some products, product categories and services that we talk about on this website through affiliate relationships with the merchants in question. We get a small commission on sales of those products. That in no way affects our opinions of those products and services.
