We have a daughter who will be 30 in April. She has been diagnosed as developmentally delayed and bi-polar. We have fought tooth and nail for her from the point where one of the meds she was on (Risperdal) almost killed her (N.M.S. – Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome) to another med (Depakote) attacking her liver. My husband has been saying for years (this all started at about 13) that “these Dr’s are going to kill our daughter with these meds” and now, after going through almost losing her TWICE I believe him. We finally have a really good psychiatrist who has her on the minimum of meds. and she’s doing well (along with losing 100 lbs. that the prior meds caused her to gain – she looks like a totally different person). Don’t get me wrong, she does have “her moments” where she lashes out for no apparent reason (generally towards me or a housemate – she has had to be placed in a care home due to her attacking me during one of her “episodes”) but I can deal with the “once in a blue moon episodes”. Looking forward to learning a lot and getting some good support here!
