I am a mom of two boys, one who has had apraxia, receptive/expressive language disorder and ADD/ADHD. The other is too young for diagnoses in these areas yet, but exhibits some language delay and has already been through speech therapy beginning at 18 months old. Luckily he does not appear to be affected by apraxia and communicates much better at 2 1/2 than our older son did at 4. As parents we are blessed they are healthy otherwise, unlike so many others we meet. But we also long for “normal” for our kids, seeing that our oldest stands out in many ways due to his disorders, some he notices and some he blessedly doesn’t right now. We fight for his normalcy all the way though. Thank you Julia for helping me pushing my fight for normal with your example.
