Melissa Haber posted an update in the group
Organ Transplants 10 months, 3 weeks ago I joined the group a while back and never introduced myself. Sorry! My daughter Daphne is 3yo, and will get a kidney transplant soon. My husband is the donor. She was born at 27w, minutes after her identical twin sister, Leah, died. Leah’s death is what caused Daphne’s kidney damage. We were not sure if she was going to make it past the initial shock, but her kidneys started working, little by little, and then she had to overcome all the usual preemie issues. She was in the NICU for 5 months. She also had a congenital heart defect, common in mono/mono twins. That was corrected with open heart surgery when she was 6 months old, which further aggravated the kidney disease. Now, she has about 30% kidney function and each lab result is a little bit worse. We are currently looking to schedule surgery for August, if things continue as they are. I look forward to meeting other families here.

Welcome Melissa! I hope I/we can offer any information/support as you navigate this next chapter for your daughter’s journey.
Both of my kids had kidney transplants at age 8 after one of them was on dialysis (one was preemptive). We’ve been through a lot!
Glad you’re here with us and welcome again!
Thank you Julia. Just heard from our nephro that labs are a little better. They want to monitor monthly instead of setting August date for the transplant. I am a little relieved, a little nervous to go into the Fall with her factory kidneys
Hi Melissa I hope Daphne gets to feeling better soon. Keep me up to date what you find out in the coming months.
Thanks, Glyn. If I (and her nephrologist) were to guess, I’d say we can get another six months, but definitely not a year. Until then, monthly labs.
