Visual Impairment 1 year, 3 months agoPost-Surgery update. We finally had our follow up appt. today. 100% successful! No turn in either eye with his glasses and only a very tiny turn in the right eye without them. He is off the specialist’s service and can go back to our family eye doctor next year for regular appts.

Visual Impairment: 1 year, 6 months agoLiam had his eye surgery yesterday and it went well. At least we think it did, since he is refusing to open his eyes because it hurts. Our current problem is the SWEARING! Oh my! He could put a sailor to shame. We struggle with with swearing at the best of times, and our usual [...]

Visual Impairment: 1 year, 7 months agomore than 1 year later, we finally have a surgery date! November 1st. Only 2 weeks left to psych myself up for this. Liam seems fine with the idea (this will be his 3rd surgery, so he feels like a pro) once we explained that the Dr. would NOT be taking his eye out!!

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 5 months agoI’m an ophthalmic technician and used to work in peds for several years. It’s good that you’re trying the glasses route first, but honestly the surgery is fairly easy as far as surgeries go, and the kids usually bounce back really quickly! Hope it all goes well for you. I do think it’s odd that [...]

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 5 months agoSo a doctor that has never met Liam, only reviewed his file, has sent us a prescription for new glasses in the mail. HAROUMPH! Not sure how I feel about that! Me thinks I need to get on the phone with them Monday morning.

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 6 months agoI need to find a friend of mine who isn’t on the site and see if she knows anything about this. I can’t remember what her daughter’s diagnosis was so I will check with her!

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 6 months agoand now we wait again. He had the testing today to see if his prescription needs to be changed. One lens is off by .5 diopes (sp?) and the Dr will review all the results on monday to decide if we try a new prescription for 3 months or move right on to surgery.

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 6 months agoHi, I just joined. My 8yo DD has an inherited form of Retinitis Pigmentosa. While she is not quite big enough for ERG testing, her symptoms clearly indicate RP (night blindness, no bottom quadrant), in addition her bio-dad has a very progressive form of RP and was declared legally blind at age 35.
While her RP is not her biggest issue these days…[Read more]

I am a teacher of the blind and visually impaired but typically work with early intervention, birth to three year olds. I have a friend though who is a TVI with older children. Does your daughter have a TVI in the school? Does she already have an IEP? Where do you live? I will ask my friend about the laptop and get back to you.

Visual Impairment: 2 years, 9 months agoSo Liam was in to the pediatric ophthalmology clinic yesterday to measure how much his eye turns in. It turns in by 60 prism diopter without glasses and 30 with. There is more testing that they want to do and then we may try bifocals or go straight to surgery. Has any one here been [...]
