Organizing … Specialized!

Public Group active 2 weeks, 2 days ago ago

Organizing…Specialized is group where we help each other with the home organizing challenges we face raising children with special needs. While our moderator is a Professional Organizer, she is not able to personally address each question raised, especially as the group grows. We can all share our tips, offer suggestions and help one another. Leslie will address as many questions as she can, but please remember she is our volunteer moderator.

Storage Closet for Child with Special Needs (3 posts)

When life gets hectic, it can be difficult to focus on increasing independence for your child with special needs. One option is to have a closet/cabinet on the main floor of the home designated exclusively for this purpose. Use this space for independent access to school supplies, toiletries, snacks (whatever!). Color-code, label, and strictly organize the area to reduce visual clutter and increase independence! Does anyone already do this? How does it work in your home?

Leslie, we do this and it’s a shelf in our kitchen…we use baskets for different items relating to school. Their current books they are reading and homework that stays at home stays there!

That’s great, Julia! I am working with a client this week to clear out a large storage closet right off the family room for this purpose. It is currently jumbled and not very functional.
