Organizing … Specialized!

Organizing…Specialized is group where we help each other with the home organizing challenges we face raising children with special needs. While our moderator is a Professional Organizer, she is not able to personally address each question raised, especially as the group grows. We can all share our tips, offer suggestions and help one another. Leslie will address as many questions as she can, but please remember she is our volunteer moderator.

    Here's a way to organize gift wrap. It's a peg board like you might use in a garage for tools. The hooks hold gift bags, scissors, a hole punch, tape, the large waste basket is storing the roll gift wrap, the small waste basket is for trash, the bins to the right hold gift boxes, tissue, tags and bows, extra ribbon, and gifts I've purchased. The ribbon in front of the peg board is on a rod held up by old curtain rod hangers. It's not fancy (as you can tell!!!), but it gets the job done.

    Here it is after. I realize it doesn't look that different unless you look closely! Containers for each of the kids, then one for meds they share (and reg childhood meds/needs), one for ours and one for my nephew, along with random reusable napkins we use nearly everyday and towels. We have the meds in containers for each of the kids in a handy place.

    I know, it's pretty bad, right? Hadn't organized it in a while. I guess with the extra hour this morning, I feel I had time (actually took me less than an hour).

    I couldn't run our household without having this area in our kitchen. It does sacrifice some kitchen counter and cabinet space, but the pay-off is that I have a system for all those papers!

    We aren't long on drawers in our kitchen - notice our junk drawer! It's in the cabinet on the shelf on the left. :-)
