I joined because my son has a tracheostomy, and because of that he’s severely delayed in speech – the official paperwork says he’s non-verbal at this point (age 2). His testing shows he’s severely delayed receptively too, but we’re not convinced – he’s seriuosly anxious about new people (and had never met the evaluator), and [...]

We’ve asked for another rmeeting about our son’s IEP/IFSP, largely over speech goals. He’s 2, and has a trach, so he’s severely delayed with expressive speech, and we’re arguing about how delayed he really is for receptive (my 2 year old can go get a red ball out of the ball pit when asked; I [...]

My daughter is 3 years old and has an acquired language disorder. The language area of her brain was injured by a gigantic tumor, surgery to remove it, and radiation to make the cancer stay away. She also has high frequency hearing loss from some of the chemo drugs given to her and wears hearing aids. She hears sounds and makes sounds and mimics certain phrases, but appears to have significant delays in receptive and expressive language. We are trying to figure out the best ways to help her acquire language – spoken or signed, doesn’t matter to us (except for we are still learning sign language… so we aren’t exactly the best teachers).

My daughter is starting middle school in a few weeks. We did a lot of research and feel this is the best possible fit for her. Still, I am worried about how she will do at a new school. Mostly I am worried about how they will handle her language processing problems. It is so [...]

I put my daughter on the waiting list for Language Processing testing at OSU. I am hoping this will clarify some of her issues and help us know how to address them more accurately. Only costs $150. Not too expensive in my opinion.
