Not with one of my posts. Although, I think with my most recent post, I likely will generate more anger toward me. I made some comments on another blog, and my fellow readers are MAD at me. It’s interesting, because before I started blogging, I’d never really read any blogs. Well, I read Julia’s, but not any Autism blogs. The autism community is greatly divided, and mostly I’m finding that people aren’t really interested in honest debate on either side. You either agree, or disagree, and if you disagree, or asks questions then you’re a TROLL. I think they might be starting to think I’m a troll. Maybe I am. But, here’s the thing, if I can’t go directly to the people who hold a position and ask for clarification, based on logic, and without offense, then how can I understand their position much less take them seriously?

Anyway, they’re mad at me. Tomorrow they’ll have someone else to be mad at. I think they like being mad.

Discussion on the internet is very very very tricky and yes, it’s very easy to end up in an argument when you thought you were having a discussion. The adoption world is also very divided and personally I do not go to or comment on blogs that hold a fundamentally different point of view because it’s so hard to convey nuance and tone online. I don’t mind if people who disagree with me come to my blog but if they are cemented in their point of view and just want to try to argue me down, then I lose interest. Like I barely talk about homeschooling on my blog because when I do, people always get all hepped up about it. I’m much more comfortable arguing about adoption ethics than I am about homeschooling (and we are unschoolers, which makes us even shadier to people’s eyes) because I just don’t CARE how other people educate their kids but people sure care about how I educate mine.

    Oh well.

Welcome to the blog world, Laura! When you get embroiled in some internet craziness you have officially arrived!

Yeah, anytime you enter a debate or what some people perceive as opposition, you run the risk of getting them mad. Yes, you’ve arrived Laura…welcome to blogging!

I’ve been really lucky in only having one troll, because I mentioned attachment therapy, and that person was a hit and run. True trolls to me are the ones that stalk, threaten and hate, not ask honest questions. I’m sorry you had a bad experience. Mine is not an autism blog, but you are welcome anytime!
