Just wanted to see if any of you could offer support and/or words of wisdom to new member Cheney.

Thank you very much, Julia! You’ve already brought tears to my eyes. I guess I came to the right place.

Cheney…nearly all the parents of kids with special needs have been where you are…reeling. I think the worst for me is/was the unknowns of what my kids were diagnosed with.

I can tell you that the time between bouts of sadness about my kids’ challenges when we first learned about them grew. There were days, then weeks, then months I didn’t cry because I was sad. I learned that they were still awesome kids and I was still lucky to know them. I also have an appreciation for the small steps they take at a time – we celebrate them all!

    Hang in there…

I am doing my best to hang in there now – I suppose even though the year ended terribly, there is also a lot of relief that the school year is over and we can focus on Elise now – herself, not her self when she is at school, where she is a totally different child.

Her diagnosis of PDD-NOS came from a clinical social worker, so now, we have to go through the process of getting her a neuro-psych exam and a diagnosis from a MD. The wait and wondering is frustrating me… Is it really PDD, or an ASD? She fits so squarely into all of the parameters for a PDD diagnosis, but we have to be sure. The unknowns are so scary…

Sorry to be a bummer, it’s been a tough few days. Trying to write my way through it and pick up some comrades along the way.
