Wanted to share this great resource that unfortunately is not available in our state called TEFRA.
Under the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 (TEFRA), states may provide Medicaid coverage to children with severe disabilities, disregarding their family income, if these children require care at an institutional (hospital, nursing home or intermediate care facility) level.
Currently, 18 states have TEFRA type programs…http://www.hdwg.org/catalyst/cover-more-kids/tefra
That link will let you know if your state provides TEFRA. The program does not take the family’s income into consideration, only the child’s. To qualify, your child’s medical records will be reviewed by a team of doctors. They will decide, by using standards set by SS Disability, whether your child is disabled. If so, they automatically qualify for Medicaid. The Medicaid also pays for meds.
