Students Help Special Needs Students Get Chance At Homecoming Court

After discovering a rule that banned special needs students at Lawrence Free State High School from being homecoming king and queen, students at Lawrence Free State took up the cause and have gotten the rule changed.

“I found out he wasn’t on the list, and I was really concerned, I didn’t understand why,” Free State student Bailey Knowlton said.

Along with the title of being classmate, friend and senior at Free State, Owen Phariss may soon be given a new title — homecoming king.

For Phariss, who has Down syndrome, the chance to be king may not have come it weren’t for a few … queens
