Will There Be a Job For My Son? For Others With Disabilities?

It being Labor Day tomorrow (or maybe today as you read this), it’s the first day of school for my son Charlie tomorrow, as it is for many children across the US.

Consequently, in our household, ‘Labor Day’ has come to mean the big transition day before Charlie returns to the routine of his classroom. It’s the ‘final hump’ before, at long last, the long days of summer vacation are over—Charlie is on the moderate to severe end of the autism spectrum and summer camps and other programs that are appropriate for him are few and far between, if not non-existent, due to his communication and behavioral challenges.
