Special ed students more likely to be disciplined

A recent study reveals special education students in Texas public schools are nearly twice as likely to face disciplinary measures as students in the general education population, and the Abilene Independent School District is no exception.
According to a recent Texas Education Agency report to the state Senate Committee on Education, special education students make up just 10 percent of the enrollment in Texas public schools, but they account for 21 percent of expulsions. The Texas Tribune reports the numbers come from the School-to-Prison Pipeline report published by Texas Appleseed, a nonprofit, public-interest law center.
