Born 10 weeks premature at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, Christa Chant weighed 2 pounds and could fit into the palm of her father’s hand.
Two days later, she was diagnosed with an intraventricular hemorrhage — a bleeding into the brain’s ventricular system — and nearly stopped breathing.
“Three times they told us she wasn’t going to survive,” recalls Christa’s father, Ted. “And if she did, she would never walk or talk.”
Sixteen years later, Christa is scheduled to join 12 teammates from Challenger Ball of Cherry Hill for an 11 a.m. exhibition baseball game Saturday, a day before the Little League World Series championship in Williamsport, Pa.
